Station Visits
By appointment only
We welcome visits, by appointment only, to the station by groups up to a maximum of 20 people. We can arrange visits for groups of all ages from 9 to 99 years old, for example, schools, young people's groups and adults, and we will endeavour to tailor the experience to suit the group.
Although our visits are free, as a charity we would be grateful for any donation you are able to make to help run the lifeboats and lifeboat station. Thank you.
Typically visits last for about one and a half hours or more depending on the size of the party and can include:
- a tour of the building and its facilities, including the crew room and kit room
- a chance to climb onboard the all-weather lifeboat and see the inshore lifeboat in its floating boathouse
- be shown the equipment carried
- be given an explanation of the crew's individual personal protective equipment (such as lifejackets, helmets and drysuits)
- be shown an informative video about the RNLI.
Visits can take place between 9.30am and 3pm from Monday to Friday, and between 6.30pm and 8.30pm on Monday, Tuesday and Friday evenings.
However, please note that the evening visits are only held from mid-April until the end of September, but excluding August (when the station is operationally very busy).
Health and Safety considerations
The station has very steep stairs and narrow over-water walkways. The visit is therefore unsuitable for children under 8 years old or certain disability groups.
